The League of Women Bowlers (LOWB) is a USBC sanctioned bowling league. 

 

We are a fairly new women's bowling league...formed in September2006.

 

Our 1st season had 20 women...our 2nd season had 40 women and now our 3rd season got off to a great start with 74 women bowlers!!! We finished up with 87 members!!!  For our fourth season 2009-2010 we have 64 women on our rosters with 31 new women joining us this season!!!  Woowee!!!

                          ***OUR 4TH SEASON BEGAN SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 13, 2009

                                        We bowl at Rinaldi's Riverdale Bowling Lanes located in Riverdale, Maryland... 

 

  

Sanction Fee is a one time only $20 to join...Weekly Bowling Fee: $18.00 ...our season has a 32 week commitment from September thru May.

   We need women to substitute for absent bowlers...this is a good way to get lots of practice and to meet lots of the wonderful women in our league...if you like to bowl and can't commit to the 32 week schedule, sign up with us as a substitute and join the fun!  contact us : email League Secretary Julia directly at jj3394@aol.com

 

We have a few vacancies open also, so join as a member ...contact our Secretary Julia.

 

You won't miss a minute of the football season either with 2 large screen tv's and lots of little ones throughout the bowling alley...we also have a lounge area with a pool table, full service bar, a fabulous concession/food service area and other comforts for those wishing to take a break from the bowling.

 

                                                                                                                                                                                     

  

 NOTE: when you join the league, your teammates will expect you to bowl every

          Sunday possible... from the beginning of the season/September to the

          end of the season/May...your weekly fee is also required for the 32 

          weeks of bowling...check the 'Announcements Page' for an explanation of 

         this commitment as a bowler and/or sub.

It is the desire of this league to promote the sport of bowling for women.

 

                                                                                               

We meet in a friendly, yet competitive, non-smoking social atmoshpere with background music and lots of fun going on. 

 

We had 10 teams of 4 women each and a total of 41 league members with 21 new women joining us for the Fall 2007-2008 season.

 

 

We once again increased membership last season (2008-2009) with (get this now...) 57 new women joining us for a total of 87 women with16 teams of 4 and 15 subs

 ...we'll  have even more members with you joining :) ...we look forward to meeting you this season...bring friends! 


All bowling skill levels are welcome...

 

Cheerleaders and supporters needed also for this 'up and rising' women's league.  

 

It's all about "being in the company of women" .

 

We are committed to the values of bowling and dedicated to enhancing our bowling experiences. 

 

League Organizers include long-term league members, avid bowlers  and a 2006 Gay Games VII Bowling Bronze Medal Recipient.

 

Avenues of communication and networking opportunities are open to all.

We are the ONLY WOMEN'S LEAGUE in the CARA gay bowling organization!  

CARA is the Capital Area Rainbowlers Association consisting of 15 leagues in the DC Metropolitan Area. Pull up their website for more info on our 'bowling web sites' page or click on www.carabowling.org .   We marched proudly with the CARA organization in the 2008 & 2009 Capital Pride Parade.  We've gotten quite a few new interested bowlers to sign up for this season at the CARA Booth during the Pride Festival. 

We are also (after being voted in as of Nov 15th 2008) one of the newest members of IGBO (International Gay Bowling Organization)...voted in at their Mid-Year Board Meeting in San Diego, California...we are 1 of 7 female international leagues in IGBO and  proudly their largest women's league on the East Coast.  Congratulations!!!

 

IGBO is comprised of more than 12,000 bowlers in over 140 leagues throughout Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States. They have over 65 tournaments each year.

DC will host their MId-Year Tourn in 2010...

CC is Chairperson of the DC Women's IGBO Outreach Social Committee and our women's league will host the Hospitality Suite during that tournament wkend.

 Social Events... Our league plans to have lots of enjoyable events and trips for the ladies.  We have a camping trip in Harpers Ferry & Williamsburg coming up this summer, baseball game nite at Nationals Park, and with the Mystics women's basketball at the Verizon Center, Atlantic City casino trips (August 8th 2009), Medieval Times at Anne Arundel Mall dinner theater, club nites at Club LACE for ladies on weekends and hosting several Cabarets are  also scheduled events...details on our Announcements Page


  

 

Our league achieved NATION-WIDE recognition our first year...  imagine what the future holds...be a part of all the fun! Join!

TOURNAMENTS

  Among the many events we participate in, local tournaments are included...most of our league members participated for their first time ever in a bowling tournament...and they loved it...

 

CARA End-Of-Season Tournament is competition between all of the CARA Leagues...the League Of Women Bowlers proudly represented and became the first women's league to win the tournament at the 2008-2009 End of Season Tournament held in Virginia...we are proud to be this seasons CHAMPIONS!

*** League Founder CC Ford renewed her marriage vows from

     a year ago when she & Joyce (her wife) married legally in

     Hollywood California, July 17, 2008. 

    One week after DC passed the law to 

    recognize same-sex marriages from other

    statesCC & Joyce were joined by Reverend

   Dorothy Randall Gray from San Francisco,

  California, who performed their original

   marriage ceremony, too once again

   preside over their marriage ceremony.

  They were also joined by their close friends

 to who witnessed this happy occassion. 

  The ceremony took place at the MCC/Metropolitan

   Community Church of Washington, DC.

   Congratulations and many happy years of love, devotion 

   & blessings!!!
